Our adoption fees help to cover the expenses for ALL of our animals in the program. Some animals may have perfect health and others may have ailments including, but not limited to, heart-worm disease, broken limbs, urinary tract infections, luxating patellas, or any other injury or issue that can cost hundreds, if not thousands of dollars. It is our duty as an organization to attend to any medical need that arises while an animal is in our care or that we have committed to rescuing from a shelter or extremely poor living situation. Since it would be unreasonable to expect an adopter to pay an exorbitantly high adoption fee for an animal that has had a medical issue due to no fault of their own, we need to keep the adoption fees reasonable for the animals that have had higher expenses in order to make it possible for them to find loving homes, just as the animals that were lucky enough not to have had medical issues.

Rescue adoption fees are often higher than those of shelters because most rescues, neither have in-house veterinarians to perform spays/neuters, nor have any funding from the state or government. All of the RARE adoptables are "fully vetted", which means they are spayed/neutered, are current on vaccines based on their age, given dewormer (sometimes several times based on severity of parasite burden), kept on heart-worm and flea/tick preventative, micro-chipped and treated for heart-worms if they came into the program with heart-worm disease.

RARE, like most rescues, are strictly made up of a few volunteers and fund the rescue with personal funds, adoption fees, and fundraisers when we have the time and resources to organize them. Please contact us at RuralAnimalRescueEffort@gmail.com if you would like to become a volunteer to help us accomplish more by becoming a coordinator for organizing event and fundraisers.
